I have been doing a lot of reading this summer and have been loving it immensely! Here are a few of my personal favorites that you might find interesting to read.
I have read and listened to quite a few books/audiobooks from Mildred Taylor. All of her books were written during a time of division in America (Specifically Segregation.) A time when there was very little unity between the races. I love American history especially dealing with Civil Rights. It makes me appreciate how far the country has come and it makes me appreciate that in Christ there is no one superior or inferior because of his/her skin color.
I have also been loving Lois Lowry book Number the Stars. It also speaks of a very dark time in Europe when the Jews were being unjustifiably persecuted. My heart goes out to the Jewish people for all that they went through and I also admire how they can pick up the broken pieces and become a nation in 1944 and not let their bad circumstances and persecution hold them back from being successful.
Unplanned by Abby Johnson also another favorite read. They recently made a movie about a former Planned Parenthood worker who reformed and is now Pro-Life. This whole book is near and dear to my heart. If you know me personally you know why. Highly recommend this book its extremely heart touching and makes us realize that all lives are valuable no matter how small.
The book I'm currently reading is called the Madman of Piney Woods. I'll keep you posted on that one.
The book "29" was hilarious. I bought it last year around my birthday and read through it pretty quick. It makes me want to live every day to the fullest as I'm growing older instead of wanting to go back to a specific age. For me, it was 21. But that's a different subject for a different day.
Here are a couple audiobook recommendations:
Karen Kingsbury A moment of weakness
The Residence: Inside the Private World of the Whitehouse
